Musical Road Movie

“Songs of the Siren” (’00), his most ambitious rock-oriented release yet, in which Oe played and recorded the majority of the instruments himself, won “The Year in Music 20017) / Critic’s Choice” from Billboard Magazine.

Several skilled musicians and Oe’s friends such as Black Bottom Brass Band, Dr.KyOn (ex. Bo Gumbos), Don Matsuo (Zoobombs), and Raj Rammaya participated in the recording. Additionally, Ron Sexsmith, a talented Canadian singer-songwriter, got together with Oe in Toronto and sang in “Lucid Dreams (Version One).” Oe spent more than 1,500 hours in the whole production, which had begun with the demo production at the end of 1999, and had ended with the two-day mastering by using reel-to-reel audio tapes. Incorporating electronic elements with traditional rock music ranging from Americana, blues to psychedelic rock, Oe weaved a full=length, dramatic story which feels almost like a “musical road movie.”
